Abstract | The results of this research project revealed that the majority of English transliterations contained original meanins (50%). The rest had broader (23.96%), narrower (22.92%) and deviating meanings (3.12%) respectively. Further, the majority of the students had been exposed to many of the English transliterations in their daily lives, particularly those found in the front page news of the Thairath newspaper and in their M.3 (9th grade) English textbook. Finally, many of my students used English transliterations accotding to their Thai meanings. The research results indicate that there is a graet need for English teachers in Thailand to provide their students with activities or exercises which would help raise their students' awareness of a variety of meanings of English transliterations so that they would be able to use them for communication successfully and effectively. |
